How do you get there?
1. The drive to Veleta starts in Barcelona, with a trip time of around 3 hours.
2. Catch Avinguda Diagonal and turn right onto Autovia Litoral to head southwest along Spain’s Mediterranean coast.
3. Eventually, take the N-340 towards Alicante and follow signs for Murcia.
4. Exit at Ojén (following signs for the Sierra Nevada).
5. Drive for about 40 kilometers until you see an exit signposted as the Sierra Nevada.
6. You’ll need to take this exit off the highway and then follow this winding mountain road up into the mountains until you see a brown sign that says Barrancos on your left-hand side.
7. Turn left here and you’ll be able to park your car safely by the side of the road, as long as it’s not too busy – although it is quite a steep ascent so it can get congested if there are other cars coming down or people walking up during peak season!
8. Once parked, make sure you have your camera ready because there is no better view than from atop Mount Veleta!
